Learning Polish words and orthography.
Hello, I've started to learn Polish on my own, but I'm considering participation in a Polish course, probably in Cracow. However, I've found learning Polish words by heart quite difficult, especially when it comes to orthography.
I was wondering maybe some of you have their own methods of remembering the orthographic rules?
Thank you in advance for any help!

Unfortunately, I'm not a Polish teacher, so I can say from my own experience that learning Polish ortography is mainly learning by heart... What was/is very helpful for me are flashcards - but not only with words and highlighted letters, but also with pictures, e.g. the word "żaba" - a frog sits on "aba" and tries to catch/eat the dot above the "z". For me it is crucial to observe the words, I'm a visual person. But I've heard that Polish ortography is difficult also for Polish native speakers, so if I were you, I wouldn't be discouraged by little difficulties :-) good luck!

Polish orthography is not that difficult, so don't be discouraged from the very beginning of your learning process. Once you get accustomed to all the diacritics and their sounds it will be very easy for you to read all the words. In Polish dictionaries less than 1% of words needs to be transcribed phonologically, in comparison to English dictionary, where all the words are transcribed.
When in comes to remembering orthographic rules - well, even Poles have problems with it, so I think you just need patience and time to get used to different set of letters.

Doskonały kurs do nauki języka polskiego. Jestem zaskoczony tak dużym bogactwem dostępnych ćwiczeń do każdego z poruszanych w kursie tematów. Dzięki temu nawet trudne tematy stają się jasne i moje umiejętności rozumienia i używania polskiego są na coraz wyższym poziomie.
