COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The English as a medium of instruction for Higher Education lecturers course is designed to assist educators who work in tertiary level education and deliver their subject in English.

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?
Academic, lecturers and post-doctoral researchers working in Higher Education who are required to teach their subjects through the medium of English.

COURSE AIMS:
The course will provide an overview of EMI and explore some of the concepts surrounding its main principles. You will implement these principles into some of your own materials and practice delivering these in small groups with the support and guidance of your tutor. You will work on some lesson materials personalized to your own teaching context which will be presented at the end of the week.

COURSE STRUCTURE:
The content of the course will explore key considerations when delivering your subject in English. You will then implement these concepts and approaches into your own teaching practice. Peer and tutor feedback will be on materials created will be ongoing through the course.

SAMPLE PROGRAMME:
1) Monday
- Introduction and needs analysis
- Understanding the nature of EMI
- Challenges of lecturing for multilingual and multicultural audience
2) Tuesday
- Useful language for presenting ideas, e.g. signposting and cohesion
- The use of the voice in effective intercultural communication, e.g. clarity, speed of delivery, intonation
- Cultural Awarness: Irish History and Politics
3) Wednesday
- Facilitating effective communication in groups/seminars, e.g. using questions to guide students
- Language for online communication e.g. writing emails
4) Thursday
- Key principals in material design and creation of templates
- Material design workshop with personalised feedback and support from tutors
- Cultural Avarness: The Irish Third Level System
5) Friday
- Participant Presentation
- Assesment of Learning Rewiew of Learning Objectives

Jestem zaskoczony możliwościami, jakie daje ten kurs. Uczyłem się przy pomocy programów komputerowych angielskiego, niemieckiego i hiszpańskiego i nie spodziewałbym się, iż powstanie program do nauki języka polskiego w wielu kwestiach przewyższający tamte programy. Choć uczę się dopiero od miesiąca jestem pewny, że wkrótce będę mówił po polsku!
