Reasons for learning Polish language?
alex.brown21 2009-10-18 19:29 | Reasons for learning Polish language? Hello everyone! I just wondered: why did you start learning polish? just for fun? do you know some polish people? My girlfriend is Polish and I decided to start learning to communicate with her family. What about you? Any interesting stories?:) |
wozniak230 2009-10-19 19:32 | My grandfather comes from Poland so I thought it would be nice to know the language of my ancestors. My mom was born in the US and she learnt some Polish from her father but she was never fluent, so she didn’t taught me. I think Polish is great so I will definitely try to encourage my kids some day to learn it |
fidelus_m 2009-10-19 22:33 | I started to learn when I met some Polish friends in Dublin. They were great company and I thought that their language sounded great. They taught me a few phrases, it was fun, so I took a course in the summer and then tried to practice with my friends. The language is insanely difficult but it’s great to know it! |
nalinky 2009-10-23 11:33 | Hi, the same as you – fell in love with someone from Poland :-)) I think it’s very popular reason ;-)) |
tomek123 2009-10-27 14:36 | I’m a teacher of English, my friend came to work to Poland a few years ago and was overwhelmed with work as a native speaker of English. I decided to give it a try too. I’ve been living here for 2 years now, but Polish is still a mystery to me:/ This language is so difficult! I tried to pick it up from Polish friends and neighbours. I’m thinking about taking a course… Do you know any schools in Krakow you could recommend? |
jk.andrew 2009-10-28 19:37 | I took a course in Glossa and I was fully satisfied with their quality – very good and dynamic teachers and very small groups. The only disadvantage was a price. |
2009-10-30 11:50 | My wife is Polish. W travel to Poland roughly once a year to visit her family. Polish is such a difficult language! I do understand more of it now but saying anything is another story :) |
caroline78 2010-10-14 20:22 | I have a friend from Poland (Cracow), and she always tells me some interesting stuff about Poles and Poland. I wanted to visit her, but I also decided to learn basics in Polish. I participated in Polish course in school Glossa, just like jk.andrew who answered above to your post. I don't think it was that expensive, concerning great materials (books), proffesional teachers and lots of entertainment after classes. |
frdalloway 2010-12-15 19:46 | I've started to learn Polish about 3 years ago because I wanted to know the language which my grandparents spoke. I also met a lot of Poles at my uni and they persuaded me to come to Poland and learn Polish. Before that, I took couple lessons via skype, private lessons, even one of my friends was teaching me for a while, but the most effective was my visit to Poland and participation in the Polish course. |

marcopolo 2016-02-04 21:22 | I'm Italian and I've been working in Poland for 3 years. I think it is natural to learn the language of the country you stay in. As an expat I needed to feel more connection with other people. I met other expats and they told me about a great Polish school they attend. It's called Prolog, this is their website: www.polishcourses.com. It was a good choice. Lecturers are so kind, it just makes going to the classes a real pleasure. After 2 years of studying Polish I got a better job. This school gave me the confidence to speak Polish really well. |
greatmogul 2016-04-25 12:52 | Frankly I was about to move to Poland, for I have some portion of Polish blood in my veins and life in Ukraine is very hard now. And I started learning Polish which is rather difficult I should say. But the country is very volatile now, which is no wonder actually with such a man at the wheel. http://homment.com/n6k3XEVKWz I mean that guy, Jaroslaw Kaczynsky who's far from being mentally sane sanctioning such totally undemocratic doings of his ruling party now. Now, I doubt if I should spend money and time to go on with that learning of Polish. |
tanne 2017-07-11 11:23 | Witam, może ktoś powiedzieć-napisać o przedrostki? |
carolb 2017-08-01 03:20 | My maternal and paternal grandparents were Polish. My mother's parents did not encourage the language but she did understand Polish. My dad's parents as well as my dad and his sister spoke Polish and English fluently. I was taught some Polish as a young child and can say my prayers in Polish. My father-in-law was Polish but insisted the language was too difficult and never spoke it to either his family or to mine. Last year my husband's long lost cousins found us on Facebook and we are going to Poland for a family reunion. I thought it would be a good idea to learn more Polish for our trip to see how much I can remember. I also want to keep my aging brain active and prevent some dementia by learning a new language. Polish is challenging and certainly giving me a good exercise! |
dbacuzzi 2017-09-17 12:41 | A lot of Polish people have come to Ireland in the last 10-15 years and like many Irish people my first visit to Poland was for a relative's wedding. I learnt a little Polish before we went. Now it is a hobby. I like learning the grammar but have a lot of trouble understanding spoken Polish |
kmbh69 2017-10-06 16:52 | I am Romanian, I live and work in Germany. I discovered the Polish community when I attended the roman-catholic Liturgy, I felt simply they have faith and they live the faith, So I decided to learn Polish. I found a teacher and now I can communicate in Polish (about A1-A2), full of grammar errors, but still unterstandable. I was in Poland and I was already in some situations where I could speak only Polish and it worked. Yes, Polish is a difficult language, but I'm not afraid to learn it. |
melekegeozen 2017-10-12 23:13 | I wanna be polish |
ahmedshehata 2017-11-25 11:18 | I am learning Polish for my lovely wife! hahaha. She is Polish and she is forcing me to learn her language. However, I am not forcing her to learn my language, Arabic :-D |
vaulsonn 2017-12-01 07:17 | I actually wanna learn Polish because I like their music and the artists. My favourite is Natalia Nykiel |
eirelav63 2018-01-30 07:47 | I am at present studying at Viadrina university as an exchange student. As you know this town is located at the Polish border and the university offer courses of polish language. Not only did I decide to register to this course out of curiosity, but also to take part in a seminary about the history of Poland. Gradually what was a mere curiosity, has become a deep interest, a now a real passion. Here in Viadrina, everything is done so that you could find out Polen and to make you enthousiasm grow. The good reason for learning this language : 1) to visit this country, which is really worth visiting and get to know Polish people and strike up friendship (it is easier to meet people, when you speak the national language. Moreover the Poles are always impressed when they meet foreigners who learn polish.... They are quite ready to encourage you. 2)to fight against prejudice (the polish language is not so difficult as it is said. This language is really musical (it is a pleasure to find out the polish music and particulary Marek Grechuta's singing poetry Moreover the grammar is not so dreadful when you are like me a native French speaker. 3) Poland is in the number of inhabitants - the third biggest country in the European Union. 4) The link between Poland and France were very narrow through the history (Napoleon is mentioned in the polish national anthem, the Prince of Polish poets, Adam Mickiewicz held a chair at the College de France, etc....!!!!) - The history of its capital is unique and very impressing, the reconstruction of Warshaw is shown as example and the old town which was completely rebuilt is inscribed in the UNESCO-legacy of the humanity. - to get rid of all the prejudice about the Poles |
Ircha 2018-05-25 20:51 | Hello! I am from BELARUS. But I have Polish surname. I wonder why? Maybe my ancestors were from Poland? I want to know this. I will look for Polish roots. |
rlevas27 2018-10-31 13:34 | my wife is polish and we have a 3 years old daughter speaking also polish. I want to spy what they say about me :-) |
chelsea1 2018-11-12 15:31 | I have visited Poland 3 times and have felt most inadequate being unable to converse with Poles in their language. I want to revisit the country in 2019 and want to be better equipped beyond saying Good day and thank you |
kmbh69 2018-11-12 23:52 | I learn polish because I live in Germany and I am catholic. By the polish parish I found the real faith. Sorry, I am here to learn polish, not english.

ellisfam2003 2019-03-30 00:42 | My father was Polish, separated from his family by war and I have now managed to reconnect with some. I need to learn Polish to be able to communicate with them. kijan.vlad 2019-10-14 19:52 | Honestly I decided to learn it very spontaneously. One day I've realized that I don't wanna study in my country(Belarus, if you dk, it is nearby Poland:)). And the best way to move out or just to get out of my comfort zone I found was Poland, and of course polish. And now I've been learning this superb language, for a couple of months, because im in graduating class at school ,that's why ive got only a year to make my communicative skills better and my vocabulary wealthy |
James.Gladwin 2020-10-30 16:09 | My daughter in law is Polish and I want to be able to talk to her family.... |
DarkHawk 2020-11-01 15:18 | I am new in Poland I and I hope I'll stay here for a long time. I need someone to show me Poland ;) |
Marcin63 2020-12-16 19:19 | Hello Alex, My mom was Polish. She was born in Poland in 1940 during war. My grandmother's sister had to go to Germany to work for the Germans. I don't know why, but my babcia (grandmother) went in her place and left her baby with her parents. After several time my babcia escaped to Belgium where she met her husband and stayed . My mom only after 7 years was allowed to come to Belgium. So she had to learn dutch (flemmish) and when she had children she was not used to speak polish and so she never learned us the language. My moms dad was not known by anyone except my babcia. So it was really difficult for my mom to live without knowing who her real dad was. My mom died without knowing and now I want to know who my grandfather was . But impossible to know, to late , all people who could maybe help me are death already. I still have family in Poland and now I'm studying polish ! 2 years ago I was at school for 2 weeks in Glossa. Nice time to discover Krakow btw :-) I wish you a lot of success . Its a difficult language but oh so beautiful ! |
carolineb81 2020-12-19 17:06 | My Mother is polish, we were not encouraged to learn growing up even though she is fluent. Mainly because of the trauma of her being a refugee family, as her parents were in concentration camps in ww2. She wanted us to fit in. I want to claim my heritage back so I am now learning. |
liam_duncan 2021-08-30 11:20 | I grew up In London, I had Polish friends so to did my sister, she could always say more things in Polish than I . Now I live in Poland, I have come to dislike chinese due to them making my email disapear and stealing my money by using it to pay for the online courses on this site. I do not want an online course, the chinese have impersonated google and they have spent my money on this site. |
hussein.13alattas 2021-09-04 13:48 | That's a great question! One of the main reasons why I have started to dedicate my time to learn Polish is that I faced social struggles in Poland when I spent the first two and three years in Warsaw. Because of that, I said to myself that I would not only learn it but I want to bring the best language experience since I'm in the Polish territory such as interacting with locals, learning more about their history and tradation, etc. I had had an unsatisfying experience when I approached English language learning styles and after many years of learning, I finally understood that language is not only constructing sentences and memorizing words like normal ways. instead, It's immersing yourself inside the language and surrounded yourself. I would keep on explaining more but this what I would like to share |
Jameslemk 2021-09-06 16:34 | i Like the way it sounds. ą ę rz ż ci cz |
liam_duncan 2021-09-11 15:52 | I can only say I installed polish satelite in England for my polish wife to watch Polish programes, all my own work but here in Poland now I am 68, I can not enjoy learning polish. I find no help to learn Polish, only Chinese interference in my online book buying. and so now I have a book from glossia that has the wrong code and my pass word was and still as far as i am concerned is my house address, which the chinese do not want me to use so I say they are just crooks from china trying to steal money |
Sonny44 2021-09-11 21:57 | I completely fell in love with the polish language, the country and I met a polish girlfriend. |
